Former England footballer Adam Johnson is facing up to 10 years in jail after being found guilty of sexual activity with a child.
Johnson, 28, had already admitted grooming and kissing a 15-year-old girl but denied two more serious counts of sexual activity with a child.
The ex-Sunderland star was found guilty on one count involving penetration but was cleared of a second.
A judge warned him a prison sentence is "almost inevitable" and the starting point for his offences is five years.
Johnson's victim was a schoolgirl who worshipped Sunderland, especially their winger whose name and number 11 she had on the back of her replica shirt.
The day after posing for pictures with Johnson outside the Stadium of Light, the schoolgirl added him on Facebook on December 31, 2014.
Within just a few messages Johnson asked for the schoolgirl's mobile phone number.
The pair then went on to exchange 834 WhatsApp messages over the next two months.
Girfriend Stacey FloundersAdam Johnson’s ex-girlfriend Stacey Flounders also got into the people carrier. In contrast to her previous appearances at Bradford Crown Court, she appeared reluctant to be pictured.
The 26-year-old mum put her hands over her face as she sat alongside the now-convicted paedophile.
He asked: "Are you in last year of school?"
The girl confirmed she was in Year 10 and later talked about being too young to get into bars and nightclubs.
Johnson added: "Haha but yeh you look old enough. When you 16?"
The victim added she wouldn't be 16 until later in the year.
Johnson replied: "Ages then. LOL"
Within the message thread, Johnson offered to meet the girl to present her with a signed football shirt.
The pair met on January 17 - 18 days after they first started texting - in a car park behind a Chinese takeaway in County Durham.
Within those 18 days, Johnson had become a father.
The schoolgirl got into Johnson's Range Rover and was given a signed Sunderland shirt. The meeting lasted little more than 15 minutes.
Johnson said he then dropped the girl off at a shop so she could buy 'sweets or something'.
Within hours Johnson was messaging the girl again, after she text to thank him for the shirt.
He text: "You owe me. I thought I would have got a thank you kiss for the shirt."
The schoolgirl said: "Haha. It will be."
Johnson responded: "Confident aren't you? Am I only getting a kiss?"
The schoolgirl replied: "Depends on what else you're after?"
Johnson wrote back: " I dunno, it depends what you are up for.. a little bit more than a kiss.
" A bit of feeling. Just see. No pressure. Lol."
Tellingly, Johnson then added : "Keep deleting our convos."

The pair arranged to meet for a second time in Johnson's black Range Rover on January 30.
Within hours, Johnson text: " Wasn’t bad was it? Lol.
She replied: “No haha.”
Johnson responded: “Haha think we need to go in the back next time lol.
"It was class just wanted to get your jeans off."
She responded: "Next time. Haha."
Johnson said: "I will last 10 seconds though lol"
