During her trial the court heard how Alexie, whose three other children are in foster care due to her problems with cocaine and heroin, abandoned the child because he was 'a barrier to her social life'.
Assistant Prosecutor William Cataldo told how Alexie had tried and failed to conceal the pregnancy from her boyfriend before pretending to have miscarried while actually giving birth late in 2014.
Cataldo told how Alexie delivered the boy herself in the garage next to her home, cutting the umbilical cord with her teeth before wrapping him in a towel and a t-shirt.
Alexie then hid the newborn on filthy ground behind a mattress, Cataldo said, before she returned to the house next door. Over the coming days temperatures plunged as low as 24F.
In her defense, Alexie claimed she checked in on the boy every few hours and had attempted to breastfeed him, but eventually found him dead.
When the boy died Alexie put the body in a garbage bag before it was dumped in a bin. After the remains were found it was left to the county to bury the boy after Alexie waived her right to be involved

Cataldo said the boy's body was then placed into a garbage bag which was dumped into a recycling bin and discovered by staff at a nearby processing center in January 2015.
He blasted Alexie for failing to make use of the state's safe haven law, meaning the child could have been handed over to any staff member at a hospital, fire station or police station without reprisal.
He said that in the days after giving birth Alexie was sending selfies to friends, claiming she had been on a diet and lost weigh.
After the body of the boy was discovered blue and covered in snow by recycling plant workers, an appeal was launched to find the mother.
Amy Lesniak, who is caring for two of Alexie's children, said she had been suspicious the woman was pregnant again after she started missing visits, claiming to be ill or having stomach cramps.

When Lesniak heard that a baby had been found abandoned, she tipped off authorities about Alexie, leading to her arrest.Meanwhile authorities named the boy Henry Alexander Macomb, after the county's namesake, Gen Alexander Macomb, before arranging a funeral for him.
The boy was buried by government officials with around 100 other county residents turning out of Alexie waived her right to take charge of the arrangements.
