    After thinking someone had broken in she grabbed her pistol and a shootout ensued with intruder being hit multiple times, police said
    Intruder was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries
    The woman and baby were not harmed during the incident, according to her family

A mother's maternal instinct kicked in as she shot an armed intruder who entered her Indiana home through her baby's bedroom window.
The incident happened early Thursday afternoon at an Indianapolis home, which has a sign hanging out front that reads 'We don't dial 911' and features a decorative gun hanging below.
When the mother heard the burglar coming through the window, she took out her pistol and a shootout ensued, with the intruder being hit multiple times, according to FOX 59.

The baby was inside the home at the time of the incident, according to the woman's family. 
Her father, Edsel Ballard, said at the time his daughter had heard the window bust open and then called her husband, telling him she thought someone was breaking into the house. 
Police said there was an exchange of gunfire with the intruder missing but the woman hitting him several times, according to FOX 59.
